Candidate Eligibility and Applications

Please ensure you understand exactly which exam product to purchase according to your eligibility and site location.

If you are uncertain about which product to select please call the SAC office at 1.800.259.8519 before making your selection.

Please note that once you have completed step 2 to finalize your payment, you must then complete step 3 for the selection of the exam site.

The name in the user account must match exactly how it is written in your photo ID document.

The mailing address in the user account must be the one where you wish to receive your exam results.

Who is Qualified to Write the SAC Clinical Certification Exam?
  • SAC student associates (graduating from a Canadian or American university) who:
    • have completed all academic course work requirements; and
    • are anticipating graduating in the calendar year of the exam.
  • SAC members in good standing
  • Internationally-educated individuals writing:
    • at the request of SAC; or
    • at the request of a Canadian regulatory/licensing body.
  • Canadian-educated non-members writing:
    • at the request of a Canadian regulatory/licensing body.

Are you planning on Writing at a Non-Designated Exam Site?
  • Candidates may request to write at a non-designated site, which must be set up by the SAC office with an approved invigilator.
    • The request must be received as part of the exam application by the deadline. SAC will not approve or set up a non-designated site without a completed application.
    • SAC will provide alternative exam locations and/or appropriately reimburse candidates whose non-designated site is not approved or cannot be set up.
  • Candidates may call SAC with questions prior to submitting their application.
  • Non-designated sites can include various cities across Canada and internationally. Examples include:
    • The United States
    • Australia
    • Hong Kong
    • New Zealand
    • South Africa
    • The United Kingdom
Do you qualify for Special Accommodations and how to apply.
  • Special Accommodation Application
  • Candidates may request special accommodations and arrangements (including religious restrictions) for the exam.
  • A Special Accommodation Application and accompanying documentation must be submitted to SAC by the exam application deadline. Requests received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • SAC will acknowledge receipt of the request once all documents have been received.
  • Requests are subject to approval by SAC on a case-by-case basis. Candidates will be notified of the final decision in writing.
  • Additional charges may apply.
ARE YOU AN INDIVIDUAL WRITING AT THE REQUEST OF A REGULATORY BODY?
  • You are only writing at the request of a regulatory body if a provincial college has communicated to SAC that you are required to write the exam as part of your provincial registration process.
ARE YOU AN INDIVIDUAL WRITING AT THE REQUEST OF SAC?
  • You are writing at the request of SAC if you have received official communication from SAC that you are required to write the exam as part of an SAC assessment to determine your eligibility for membership.
EXAM CHANGES, POSTPONEMENTS AND CANCELLATIONS.

Changes

  • Submit the Changes and Cancellations Request Form.
  • Requests for changes received prior to the posted deadlines will be considered for approval, subject to availability.
  • SAC will not accept requests for changes received after the posted deadlines. 
  • Change requests may include:
    • location of exam (request will only be considered for existing sites);
    • exam language; and
    • copy of alternate language exam.

Cancellations

  • Submit the Changes and Cancellations Request Form.
  • Requests submitted prior to the posted deadlines will receive the appropriate refund.
  • Requests received after the posted deadlines will not be refunded.

Postponements

As March 2020 will be the last SAC exam, postpnoement is not applicable.

  • Submit the Cancellations and Postponements Request Form.
  • Requests submitted prior to the posted deadline will be reviewed for approval. 
  • Approved requests will be postponed to the next exam date. 
  • Requests for postponements received after the posted deadline will not be accepted.
  • Exams can be postponed only once.
  • Candidates whose exam is postponed:
    • must write at the next exam date;
    • must apply for the next exam prior to the application deadline;
    • do not qualify for a refund or another postponement.

Extenuating Circumstances

  • If you are unable to write the exam due to circumstances beyond your control, you must submit written evidence of your circumstances to SAC as soon as possible (certification@sac-oac.ca).
  • A refund or a postponement may be provided at the discretion of SAC's Chief Executive Officer.
  • Circumstances considered include illness and a death in the family.
